Movie Fanansic

Wednesday the twenty third, movie night. It was a night no- one would forget, Pink Panther and Hop, two spectacular movies being shared over two nights. The first movie was Pink panther a very funny spy comedy that I know I would of loved if I wasn't selling food, but from what I have heard everyone enjoyed the movie. Hop, the junior movie it is about a little wee bunny who poops jelly beans and doesn't want to be the Easter bunny he wants rock and that was also a spectacular movie. It also looked like Molly was enjoying herself.

Biking in Mapua is one of easiest and most popular ways of getting around Mapua so it's essential you are safe. This week (week 6 term 1) police officer Jerry Tonkin has been helping out the intermediate learning team by doing drills to teach road safety.  They have really been enjoying doing races and courses.

The NZ rugby tour

It was a surprise none of us knew about, in fact we were very annoyed we had to go to the second meeting of the day. But we soon found out that this was not the type of lecture we were expecting.

There it was, the trophy New Zealand had been waiting for for over 24 years, The Web Alice cup, and it was in our school. Wow.It was awesome just sitting there on its stand and there were three lucky people that got to hold it and they were, Marco, Tia, Mrs Hosie and Mr Clearwater. They all got to hold the rugby world cup but had to answer some questions that were hard for people who did not pay attention to rugby.

The Scout Den

At the end of Mapua School there is a building which many people think is haunted or abandoned. They think it is never used, but as for the cubs and scouts, it's where they meet nearly every week. They learn surivival and team work skills and  how to help the community.
In a few months they will move to the new den on the domain.
If you are interested in becoming a cub or scout then you can talk to us;
(Kinsey and Maia) at school.

Everyone was nervous apart from Sophie as shown above, you could say she's room 10's energizer because of the energy she has. There will be another post on who the new and improved 2012 house leaders will be on Monday.

My wife was so fat when we got married that she needed three relatives to give her away. And when I carried her across the threshold, I had to make two trips.

I'm not saying she's fat, but her last picture had to be taken by satellite.

At MOTEC

At MOTEC we always have fun!!!
In sewing Sophie is making a bag.  Elena  is cooking and made a beef curry.  Sophie was sewing her bag together with the sewing machine with black thread!!! Elena's curry tasted good.  Elena couldn't finish her curry it was too filling!  Sophie sewed really fast because the machine was fun going fast.

crazy car wash

CRAZY CAR-WASH COMMOTION

On Thursday the 8th of March, we held a car wash at to Mapua school.  It was so much fun and we all got soaked in our clothes and togs.
We made $106 in only 2 hours. We even managed to get people on the street who hadn't heard of the car wash. Considering we had no advertising apart from the sign outside, the amount of money we made was fantastic!!!!
The money is going to go towards our class camp fundraiser along with the other fundraising ideas which have been done or are going to be done.
We used two hoses and had a load of sponges. Not only did we have heaps of sponges it was also heaps of car washes too.
We had many jobs being run like; hosing, washing, drying, money collecting, sign holders, bell ringers, car directors, car leaders, final checkers and don't forget the manager who organised  the whole event.
It was great fun and we are doing it again next Thursday after school on the 15th, so don't forget to come along with your dirty car (even if there is only a tiny bug splat on your windshield).

Mathletitians In Room 10!

Michaela recieving her reward
Recently, the school has made a Mathletics award and it is passed around the classrooms being given to a different person each week.
Room 10s turn came at last and it has been incredibly difficult choosing between the three Silver Certificate winners: Elena R, Michaela C and myself, Finlay L. I was given the honor of presenting the award, which meant it wasn't me, and the winner was, in fact, Michaela. Michaela was well deserving of the award, as she "Try's to get on Mathletics every night." A very well done to Michaela!

Rainbow Friday!!

Parachute Fun!
On Friday the second of March Room 10, lead by Emma, Kelly and Cailin, put on a Rainbow Friday.  It was and fundraiser for our camp and a cool event for the students to have some fun.

Each class was given a colour of the rainbow to dress up in, although we ran out of colours so room ten had to give some of the classes shades, black, white and grey. To raise money the students of room ten made biscuits and cakes to sell at morning tea and lunch.

Games were organised for the students at lunch time and I think they were a huge success. There was a treasure hunt, parachute games and stories being read to any one who wanted to listen.

In the treasure hunt fifty pieces of numbered paper were hidden in the play ground. Then after lunch eating, the kids were let loose in the play ground to go and find them. If you found a piece of paper you would write your name on it and it was put in a box. When all the paper had been found three peoples names were drawn out of the box and the winners were given a free cupcake.
Treasure Frenzy!!!!!!!

The parachute game was a little overwhelming at the start but with the help of a microphone and Mr Taylor's whistle  they got the kids under control and had some fun.

The fundraiser went enormously well and we raised three hundred and two dollars!
With 29 people in our class, thats approximately ten dollars each towards our camp.
And with lots more fundraisers I can see our camp fees decreasing more than that.

I think its fair to say that the day was fantastic. Everyone had fun, everyone dressed up and everyone ate cake. What could be more awesome?
