Our Viking boat which was used in a raffle. Just from the raffle, we earned about 150 rubys.

PrEP; Undecided
My PrEP - Primary Enterprise Program, team is called "Undecided", The members of this group are, Elena, Emma, Tait, Dylan and Me (Michaela)! In our business, we make scungy dolls, witch are like ugly dolls, my mum thinks they are aliens but they are still cute!
In all the PrEP Groups, we have different jobs, in our group they are; Emma as C.E.O, Elena as Marketing, Tait as Banking and Me as Health and Safety (H'n'S)
We also have different jobs in the production line, Elena as sewer, Emma as stitcher, Tait as Cutter and Dylan and I as Stuffers!
We have made a profit at the Senior and Intermediate Mini-Market, our first Mini-Market went well! We sold out a whole page of orders!
I think my group needs more profit because we are not selling them for much more than we are paying for the import...

I have enjoyed working with this group because they haven't left me out at any time, this group is like a little community! I have had a good time here so far, and I hope that it will stay like this...

MICHAELA'S SOLO
At the end of Term 3 Room 11 was running an assembly and Cameron asked if anyone wanted to play an instrument or sing. I wondered to myself whether I could do this. I enjoy singing and normally I sing at ‘Open Mic Night” at The Tap but usually Damon is with me helping out by playing the guitar. About a day later I thought ‘this would be quite cool, getting to sing in front of the school’ so I told my Mum and she helped me choose a song. We decided on ‘Something in the Water’ by Brooke Fraser. I came to school and told Mr Searle that I would really like to sing and he told Mrs Hosie.
I went home and practiced my song. On the Friday Mrs Day came and asked me how I was and if I was all ready to sing. We spent some time together practicing and making sure I knew my words. I was feeling quite nervous but also excited because I love singing and I get to sing in front of the whole school.
At the assembly Mac played the piano, Catherine also played the piano and then Max and Ben played together on guitar and drums. Next it was my turn. I walked up on the stage and I introduced my self. I was even more nervous wondering if I would be OK. The music started and I was singing. It was going really well BUT THEN the music stopped – I decided to just keep on singing because people say ‘the show must go on’. It was a little bit harder without the music but I could hear myself quite well. It was also neat because the little kids were singing the chorus with me. I was really enjoying it. At the end I took a bow and the crowd clapped lots.
I felt really proud of myself and some teachers came up and congratulated me. That made me feel really good. Mrs Day could not be there but she heard about it and she was very proud of me for doing that. She said she could not get up and sing in front of lots of people!!!! Mum and Dad were also there to watch and they gave me a big hug at the end.
I am still singing at Open Mic Night and there is a competition coming up that I am going to enter. Only two people get through so it will be quite tough but I will do my best.

Maths with David
For the past two weeks the Brittens maths group have been doing 3rd form (Yr9) maths in room 11 with David. He has been a secondary teacher for many years and is interested in the theory behind maths. He has now retired from secondary teaching and goes around tutoring people in Maths and a few other subjects.
He has been teaching us long division, decimals, fractions and ratios. Today we have a test with him to see where we are at. He will be moving on to Algebra soon.
It's a lot of fun learning maths with him, he gets us to use his way and our own way. His ways are more fiddly but we find them fun and interesting. :)

Snow day
Finally Langelaan said that the snow was great for sking, but since it was so soft when you race it made bumps in in the track for the next person, (This made it hard to turn when racing) and he ate lunch when he wasn't sking. The organiser was Dave Scott and thought every one had a good time and raced really well. When all the skiers came back they were shattered.

The Olympics
In class this term we have been learning about Olympisism. Olympisism is basically a fancy word for the Olympic beliefs and traits. We have been doing lots of brain storms and K.W.L's. We have also been using the S.A.U.C.E method which stands for Setting the scene, Acuiring, Using Communicating, and Evaluating ( S.A.U.C.E ). We are looking forward to learning more about Olympisism in class.

FRENCH with Mr Searle
In room 10 we have been learning French.
We have been recently learning about greetings and questions by watching and old school cassette tape it is very interesting because it feels like we are really in France.
We have also learned simple greetings like Bonjour (Good day), Salut (Hi), Bien (Good) and Bonne Nuit (Good Night).
We learned about different cheeses like Brie we also learned about different breads and spreads. it looked really good.
French is easier to learn for room ten because it is very similer to Spanish that we learned last year words like Bien and et toi.
Room 10 is really enjoying to learn French and we can not wait to learn more!

The Mapua School Magazine 2012
Brilliant! Unique! What you would never expect!
amazing! BOLD! a great achievement!
and all hidden until next term!
I am a part of Mrs Hosie's Magazine team for 2012, "Every year we build up and learn from our mistakes to make this years magazine even better than last years!" - Quote, Mrs Hosie.
We are going to have a meeting with the manager of Wild Tomato Magazine later on in the year, You might be wondering what we are doing starting work on the magazine so early, what happens every year is that no matter what, we always have a mad rush to get the magazine published, and every now and then we end up behind schedule (I can relate that to what happened every now and then on last years school newspaper!) I don't want to give to much away about the school magazine, but this years magazine is going to be the best one ever!
You will not hear of the Mapua Squawk anymore this year because We are the Magazine Team!!! - Mrs Hosie, Asriel, Cathrine, Maia, Jamie

Time for a new term
We have had a very busy start to this term. Our class room has been rearranged and we are lucky to have two teachers working with us. We have four goals we are all working on:
1) Confident Management of Routines and Organisation.
2) Working Co-operatively with Others.
3) Demonstration of Personal Responsibility - for work and behaviour
4) Showing an Enthusiasm for Learning.
By following these goals we are going to have a successful term, be prepared for next year and they will help us be all we can.

Naratives
In our class this term we are learning about Narratives.
We began this unit by watching a movie called Hugo. It was about an orphan boy, 'Hugo'. His father died in a fire and left him with an Automaton ( a robot wind up machine ) to fix. He thinks that his dad left a message for him on it. During and after the movie, we had to complete a R.A.S. alert form about what we watched. It showed the teachers we understood what narratives are and it helped us analyse the movie. On the form it said to describe the characters, to describe the plot and development, where the story was set ( place, time and environment ), to name the book author and film director.
We are all looking forward to writing our own Narrative.
